Christmas Market at the Rotes Rathaus

The Christmas Market at the Rotes Rathaus (Red Town Hall) is located around the Neptune Fountain west of Alexanderplatz and provides a good connection between the Rotes Rathaus and St. Mary’s Church. With its landmark, the panoramic Ferris wheel, this Christmas market can be easily seen from afar.

The Highlight: 50m panoramic ferries wheel:

Perhaps you already took a ride on the large Ferris wheel when you were in Berlin at Christmas or shortly before. For over 30 years it has also been the landmark of the Munich Oktoberfest. The glowing and flashing Ferris wheel with its closed panoramic gondolas is more than fifty metres high. From high above you can enjoy looking down on a beautiful Christmas scene. Your gaze will reach as far as the Brandenburg Gate, the Funkturm and Potsdamer Platz.

In the narrow streets you will find stalls decorated for Christmas, where you can buy roasted apples, lángos (Hungarian fried bread), mushroom dishes and many other Christmas delicacies. Artisans and merchants also offer their goods for sale there, and Berlin original characters Der Eckkensteher Nante and Der Drehorgelspieler (a porter and an organ player) also make an appearance.

The façades feature original illustrations of the houses that stood there around 1900, showing visitors the Berlin of a bygone era.

At the Christmas market there are not only traditional food and drinks but also homemade bread from the medieval show bakery. The tavern also serves hot mead from clay jugs.

For the little visitors

Your children are also well taken care of here, because dreams come true for them. Santa Claus flies over the Neptune Fountain on a reindeer sleigh three times daily: 4.30 p.m., 6.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. You can also take a ride on the beautifully painted hundred-year-old merry-go-round or on the train through the snow-covered fairytale forest. Look forward to unforgettable moments, whether with or without children.
