THE STORY OF BERLIN is an interactive museum located directly on Kurfürstendamm, Berlin's most popular shopping street. Here, visitors can spend a couple of hours exploring over 800 years of Berlin history  in over 23 individually themed rooms covering some 6,000 m².
The 20thcentury receives particular attention, showing the city under two world wars, the early years of the Cold War, the building the Berlin Wall and the reunification in 1990. [instagram:]

Highlight of the exhibition: an original atomic fallout shelter

A highlight of the exhibition is a tour of the museum's original fallout shelter, located deep under Kurfürstendamm,  the existence of which has remained largely unknown to the city's population despite its central location. The radiation protection area was built in the seventies by the West German government, is still functional, and could provide nearly 3,600 people with air, water, and food in the event of a nuclear disaster.
Guided tours of this facility are given at the start of every hour. The tours start in the museum foyer. Accompanying texts in 17 languages as well as a guide app can also be purchased on site for 1,-€. [instagram:] [instagram:]

Experience history up-closed with multimedia

Even if you're not normally the museum-visiting type, you're sure to enjoy the unusual presentation at STORY OF BERLIN, which focuses on how the past is reflected in the present day. The "Faith and Tolerance" room, for example, deals with the historical and current challenges of when members of three Abrahamic faiths live in the same society.

Visitors of all ages are welcome

The museum is equally appealing to adults and school classes, offering education programmes for both groups. This adapted educational program includes a general overview of Berlin's history, as well as guided tours and seminars on specific focus areas.  [instagram:]
