Gardens of the world in the Marzahn Recreational Park

The gardens of the world in the midst of Berlin.
The so-called 'Gardens of the World' put on show unique examples of foreign garden design. The foundation stone for this amazing permanent garden show was laid in 2000 with the Chinese Garden, the largest of its kind in the entire of Europe.
The Japanese Garden - conceived by Zen monk Shunmyo Masuno - and a Balinese Garden - with its many tropical plants in the green house - followed in 2003. The Oriental 'Garden of the four streams' with the adjoining 'Reception Hall' resumes the Islamic garden tradition of different countries. Through the shadowy hall, visitors have access to the garden courtyard - the so-called Riyâd. It is bathed in light and is surrounded by 4m high walls. Since 2007 visitors can experience two different - and still related - forms of European garden design: a maze and a turf maze. The German garden design is represented by the Karl-Foerster-Staudengarten; opened in 2008, the perennial garden is an example of German garden design of the past century. The Italian Renaissance style is to be enjoyed at the 'Giardino della Bobolina' with its roofed loggia, fountains and ancient sculptures. More gardens are planned for the Marzahn-Hellersdorf attraction.
