The Stasimuseum (state security service museum) - from here Erich Mielke commanded the Ministry of State Security
The museum is located in the House 1 in the central complex of the ministry for state security in Berlin-Lichtenberg, in which Erich Mielke, last minister for state security, had his seat. Besides the office including the secretariat and his private area, equipped on his own desires, you can visit the offices of his inferiors and closest co-workers, the big conference room and the casino. After the escalade of the area on January 15th 1990 the rooms were sealed up and by this could be preserved in their original state to this day.
Visitors can have a look at numerous exhibits that sample the activities of the state security, the different aspects of the political system, and different observation techniques of the ministry for state security and resistance and opposition in the GDR.
There are free guided tours for groups of at least 10 people offered. In this case, please make an appointment in advance.
Opening times may change at short notice, see website for information.
